Entry Four

Out of all the books I saw on the list, I chose this book in particular because of it's interesting title. The title is interesting because when you see it, it resembles destruction. For some people, it would really catch their attention.

I can personally relate to this book. Like Nita, I have had instances where I would lock myself away from everything. I always try to escape other people's problems. I believe that the majority of issues that others have like my family are issues that I cannot help with. I try to not get involved in conflicts a lot like Nita when she escaped from the bloodshed her father was fighting in.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in adventurous and dramatic books. The book as a great story well made.

Entry Three

“Family. It was just a word…Could see its letters all strung together. But it was a symbol, too. And people thought they knew what it meant…It was a thing everyone had an opinion about—that it was all you had when you didn’t have anything else, that family was there, that blood was thicker than water, whatever. But when Nailer thought about it, most of these words and ideas just seemed like good excuses for people to behave badly and get away with it. Family wasn’t more reliable than marriages or friendships…maybe less…The blood bond was nothing. It was the people that mattered. If they covered your back, and you covered theirs, then maybe that was worth calling family.”

This is a quote from the book Ship Breaker. The word "family" is very significant to this story because the story takes place in a world where we as humans must take any measure to ensure our survival, even turning on our own friends. The idea of family practically doesn't exist in this story which makes it significant.

Entry Two

Nailer is a teenage boy who struggles to survive, he was born into poverty in the American southern coast, he suffers from abuse from his father. He desires and pursues a better life.

Nita is a teenage girl who was rescued by Nailer, she was born with a rich family who owns one of the world's largest shipping companies. In desperate times, the company had to do illegal doings. Nita's father had many enemies who were willing to do anything for power. The stress had become too much for her so she had escaped along with other loyal company members. She is pursuing a stress-free life.

The theme of Ship Breaker is trust and betrayal. In the society Nailer lives in, people have to take desperate and extreme measures to survive. Nailer was betrayed and left for dead to drown in oil by one of his own crew mates, even his father betrayed him. It was impressive to see Nailer trust anyone at all throughout the book.

Entry One

In a dystopian future, the world had suffered from devastating floods from the melting ice caps, all of humanity is forced into a survival mode. Nailer is among one of the many people struggling to survive. He is a fifteen year old boy who works in a small industry as that scavenges material from washed up ships. Nailer is a light crewman who searches for supplies on abandoned ships. He dreams of becoming big enough to join the heavy crewmen who are responsible for tearing the ships apart. Nailer along with his best friend Pima encounter a brutal storm. After the storm blew by, they found a privately owned clipper that had been washed up to shore, all of her crewmen had died except for a teenage girl named Nita. Nita is the daughter of one of the most powerful shipping companies in the world. Nita had fled from her father's enemies. Nailer along with his friend decide to take Nita to find one of her father's ship. Nailer's father is one of the company's enemies, he captures Nita. Nailer is forced to save her.

The story is well done and I like it. I can relate this book to Catching Fire. Like Katniss Everdeen, Nailer's decisions that were made had their own devastating effects upon him and his life. Nailer's most important decision was to saved Nita, he had changed his fate permanently.
